One Tweet Creates a Domino Effect of Creative Connections for Two Artists

Story sent to me by Shannon Black of the Cole Gallery. (Thanks Shannon!)

Social networking continues to change the way we view the world and get connected with others.  The arts community is no exception.  Both March feature artists at Cole Gallery, Jennifer Phillips and Lisa Lamoreaux, met through a single tweet written on Twitter.  This tweet inspired a friendship that led to motivating each other artistically and sharing gallery and collector connections.

“I think I had made a comment that made her laugh and then she responded with an equally funny comment,” Lisa shared.

“Amazingly, by communicating through a status update that only allows for typing 140 characters,” Jennifer responded, “it was just enough information to determine that Lisa and I were destined to be really great friends.”

Twitter allows users to communicate brief phrases to anyone who will read them.  There are 175 million registered users on Twitter according to their website which allows for endless possibilities to connect with the world in any subject matter.  Twitter’s tag line, “The best way to discover what’s new in your world,” proved true for Jennifer and Lisa.

Their friendship led into weekly business meetings to keep them inspired and on track with their artistic career, which then segued into sharing a multi-roomed artist’s studio.

Lisa’s single tweet inspired a domino effect of creative connections.  Cole Gallery, who had been showing Jennifer’s work, then also picked up Lisa Lamoreaux as a new artist because of the connection the two women made.

“Often we meet great painters through artists we currently represent at the gallery,” Denise Cole, gallery owner said.

Both Jennifer and Lisa use social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, and blogging as an integral part of their artistic experience.  “Painting is almost like a performance piece,” Jennifer explains.  “Through social networking outlets I share my creative process on good days and bad days; you get to see it all. So when you view my work, there is a story and experience to go along with it that becomes, in a way, a part of the piece.”

Both women’s work are now on display at Cole Gallery (107 5th Ave. S., Edmonds).  Jennifer’s lusciously moody arboreal landscapes and Lisa’s whimsically peaceful pieces enchant every sense.  You can meet them at the gallery’s artist’s reception on Thursday March 17 from 5-8pm.
