5 new murals announced by the Edmonds Mural Society | Arts & Culture

The Edmonds Mural Society is pleased to announce the five winning murals, to be painted this coming summer in downtown Edmonds. The murals will be painted on the walls of five downtown Edmonds buildings between July 4 and September 15, 2011. 

Five artists' works were selected from a large group who submitted concepts for consideration, based on our theme for 2011, Hidden Treasures of Edmonds.  Four of the five artists are Edmonds residents, and the fifth is from Olympia.  The five artists are Michelle Bear, Sue Coccia, Andy Eccleshall, Joel Patience, and Michiko Tanaka.

Paintings depicting each of the five murals will be available to the highest bidder at our annual Gala Auction, to be held Saturday, March 26, from 6:30 – 9:30pm at the Edmonds Senior Center.  Tickets for the Gala are $35, which includes a one-year membership for 2011.

Edmonds restaurants show their support of the murals by providing delectable treats for us this evening.  Enjoy a true taste of Edmonds, with samplings from Arnie's, Chantrelle's, Demetri's Woodstone Taverna, The Loft, Epulo Bistro, and the Resident Cheesemonger to name a few.  Arista Wine Cellars offers tasty libations as well.

Patrons can also enjoy a silent auction, full of art from our many local artists, and fine items from our downtown Edmonds merchants.  A magic show, courtesy of Bruce Meyers, will be featured as entertainment, while the Edmonds-Woodway High School jazz combo provides our musical enjoyment during the silent auction time. 

So far, the Edmonds Mural Society, made up of nearly 200 prominent Edmonds citizens, has raised 6 murals in the downtown Edmonds core.  This year will bring the total to 11.  In addition to funding the murals, members choose each year's theme, and vote on their favorite new mural each fall.  Our mission:  to celebrate the beauty, history and people of Edmonds.
