SnoKing Youth Club Names a New Director
I had a chance to sit down and chat with Steve Escandon, the new Director of the SnoKing Youth Club.
When do you start as the new Director of the SKYC? I begin my position on July 1, 2010. The office will be closed for the month of July but I will be meeting with local school districts and city parks and recreation departments to discuss field and gym usage. I will also be out and about meeting local business owners and rotary clubs to build the relationship with the hope that they can help with the needs of our athletes and their families.
Did you participate in SKYC as a child? Yes, I played soccer and basketball for many years. I have many great memories from my SKYC experience. I also believe that SKYC sports and coaches helped me learn many valuable life-long character attributes, such as; teamwork, honesty, and respect.
What made you want to take this position? I felt that the opportunity to work with young athletes, volunteer coaches and the community was a great combination that I couldn’t pass up.
Will you be making any immediate changes to the way SKYC is right now? No, I will not be making any immediate changes. My first year goal is to support the athletic programs so they are running their best and continue to build the family and community support to increase fundraising which will allow SKYC to continue to fund scholarships for any athletes in need.
Do you have any short term or long term goals for SKYC? In the short term I hope to continue to build on the great support for SKYC programs and in the long-term, (5-10 years) I hope to pursue recreational opportunities in present club only sports (Lacrosse, volleyball, and flag-football for younger children).
What’s your favorite thing about SKYC? My favorite thing about SKYC is that children get to play sports. Our, “Everyone gets to play” motto is encouraging for all levels of skill as each child improves their confidence, not only in sports but also life skills.
Seems to me that Steve is going to be a great addition to our local sports league for the kiddos!
