Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Snohomish County Fire District 1 will honor five people who saved the life of an Edmonds man who went into cardiac arrest at Harbor Square Athletic Club last month.
Four employees and one fellow gym user came to the aid of Larry Carpenter after he collapsed during his workout, using CPR and an automatic external defibrillator (AED) to restore his heart rhythm.
"Immediate treatment is crucial to surviving sudden cardiac arrest. In this case, we had quick action by citizens trained in CPR and AED use, followed up with prompt advanced care provided paramedics and doctors," said Fire District 1 Chief Ed Widdis in a press release.
Fire District 1 will honor the following people during a ceremony at the athletic club on June 3 at 6:00 p.m.:
- Eric Brunson, Harbor Square personal trainer, assisted with CPR
- Greg Boland, Harbor Square marketing director, retrieved the AED
- Kevin Kleyla, Harbor Square personal trainer, directed CPR and AED use, administered CPR
- Dr. Duncan Riddell, Harbor Square client, administered CPR
- Marc Lainhart, Harbor Square client, placed AED pads
This is the second time the club's AED has been used to save a life.
